You file on Amazon yourself. ProvenPix helps with an Upload Record, lookalike hits you still open and confirm, and an evidence pack for the form fields. Removal is always Amazon's call. This page is operational guidance for product-photo reports on detail pages — not legal advice, and not a counterfeit or trademark playbook.

The short answer

Freeze the original file and discovery date. Pick the door: Brand Registry → Report a Violation on brandservices; otherwise amazon.com/report/infringement. Bring the ASIN (or full product URL). Under Show all images, tick only the stolen frames. Issue type: Copyright. Form fields and ownership links live under Path A / Path B below. A complete pack does not guarantee removal — it removes avoidable "no" reasons.

You can be sure the photo is yours and still get rejected. Reviewers work at volume against a checklist — they need an ASIN they can open, images they can match, and an ownership field that loads in one pass.

What to do the day you find it

Do these three things before you open either Amazon form. Waiting makes the page harder to prove later if the seller swaps images or the ASIN vanishes.

  1. Freeze the originals. Keep the source product-photo file (camera RAW/JPEG/PNG from your shoot or the export you uploaded). Note the date you first saw the copy. If you already have an Upload Record, keep the Record ID, UTC upload time, and public verify URL handy.
  2. Capture the live detail page with context. Full product detail, not a tight crop. Show the address bar (or full amazon.* product URL) and a visible date. Save the product URL and ASIN in plain text too.
  3. Mark the same detail side by side. Put your original next to the listing image. Call out one shared tell: packaging text, a seam, a shadow shape, a background prop. This matters more when the copy was cropped, recompressed, or lightly AI-altered — and it tells you which frames to tick under Show all images.

If you found the hit through monitoring, treat it as visually similar / lookalike (needs your check). Open the Amazon URL. Confirm it is your photo on someone else's listing (or mark it as your own). Only then move it toward a complaint list.

What to prepare

Short list for Path A or Path B. Longer pack layout: sample evidence pack. A fuller checklist page is planned; not linked here until live.

  1. Original product photo file — the file itself, not only a screenshot of your own store page.
  2. ASIN (often starts with B0) or full amazon.* product URL for each listing. Public form often allows up to about 50 ASINs under the same concern; follow the live form.
  3. Discovery date.
  4. Side-by-side comparison with the shared detail marked (especially if cropped, recompressed, or AI-altered).
  5. Full-page screenshot with URL and date visible.
  6. Which detail-page images are stolen — main, secondary, or both — for Show all images.
  7. Optional Upload Record materials — public verify page (UTC + SHA-256 on the page), Record ID. Paste into Link to copyrighted work. No account yet: a public original link or clear description is enough to start.
  8. Packaging cases — if packaging prints your image, a test-buy Order ID helps when Brand Registry asks.

US copyright registration number: include it if you have one. Many sellers start without it and point to a public original or verify link plus a clear description.

Which door to open

Amazon uses two intakes. Pick by Brand Registry enrollment, then stay on the copyright / image path.

Two-step choice

QuestionDoorIdentifier to bring
Brand Registry? Yes brandservices.amazon.com → Report a Violation → Path A ASIN / URL / keyword (or Search by image); select only stolen images
Brand Registry? No amazon.com/report/infringement (sign-in required) → Path B ASIN or Product URL; original link/description; contact + statements

Generic "contact us about another seller" is the wrong queue for a copyright image claim. Prefer the doors above. Other marketplaces: How to report stolen product photos .

Path A · Brand Registry · Report a Violation

  1. Open brandservices.amazon.com → Report a Violation.
  2. Search by ASIN / URL / keyword, or use Search by image.
  3. Select the ASIN; open Show all images (or offers) and check only the stolen images.
  4. Issue type: Copyright. Use Trademark only when the issue is actually a trademark claim. This guide stays on product photos.
  5. Reason along the lines of: Copyrighted images are used without authorization on the product detail page.
  6. Ownership proof — one of: Copyright registration # (US, optional); Link to copyrighted work (public verify page works); or Description of copyrighted work (which photo, where it first appeared).
  7. Add Order ID / notes if asked (common when packaging prints your image). Track status in Submission History. Keep the Complaint ID; escalate via Brand Registry Support when a case sits under review (use Amazon's current options).

Path B · Public Report Infringement (not enrolled)

  1. Sign in and open amazon.com/report/infringement.
  2. Same core: ASIN or Product URL, original link or description, contact, and the platform's statements.
  3. Registration number is optional; a working public original link (or verify page) matters a lot without one.
  4. Keep the concern consistent if you report multiple ASINs. Unrelated shops in one notice are a common bounce reason.

Shared fields (both paths)

FieldWhat to put
Listing handleASIN and/or full product URL — not a shop name alone
Which imagesOnly the stolen detail-page frames under Show all images
Where the original can be seenRegistration # if you have it; else Link to copyrighted work or a precise description
Status after sendEmail + Submission History; keep the Complaint ID

Wrong image ticks and shop-name-only notices slow both paths.

Common failure modes

Almost every bounce traces to a small set of defects. Even when the photo is yours, incomplete materials mean the reviewer cannot act.

  1. No ownership basis. Only a crop from the infringing page, no original file, no public place to see your work.
Fix: Link the original file or verify page; fill Link to copyrighted work or Description so the URL loads in a private window.
  2. Wrong claim type. Image theft filed under Trademark, counterfeit, or a generic seller-complaint path.
Fix: Issue type Copyright. Brand misuse and counterfeit programs are separate tracks; this guide stays on product photos.
  3. Missing or ambiguous identifier. Shop name alone, a search URL, or a storefront homepage.
Fix: Paste the ASIN (often B0…) or the full amazon.* product URL.
  4. Wrong images selected. Checking every gallery image when only two are copies, or missing stolen secondary images.
Fix: Open Show all images, select only the stolen frames, match them to your side-by-side.
  5. Dead or mismatched original link. Link to copyrighted work 404s or points at a different photo.
Fix: Test in a private window; use a stable public verify or portfolio URL.
  6. Bundling unrelated concerns. Many ASINs from different shops or mixed issue types.
Fix: Keep one concern consistent. The public form often allows multiple ASINs under the same concern (live form may show a limit around 50).
  7. Packaging claim without Order ID when asked.
Fix: Add the test-buy Order ID and a short note when Brand Registry asks.
  8. Weeks under review with no escalate.
Fix: Keep the Complaint ID; escalate via Brand Registry Support using Amazon's current options rather than filing the same ASIN repeatedly.

After you submit

Amazon decides on its own clock. Reviews often take days to weeks. Incomplete ownership fields are a common reject reason. Follow email and Submission History. Keep the Complaint ID if Amazon gives one.

Re-open the detail page yourself. On reject, fix the missing registration, link, or description — rewording an empty notice does not help. Listings can reappear with new images or new ASINs. Image reports are about images; brand misuse and counterfeits ride other programs.

Extra documents, disputes, and reappearance belong in a planned after-you-file guide. Until that page is live, stay on Amazon's status mail, Submission History, and the Path A / Path B notes above. A strong pack speeds your side of the work. Removal stays Amazon's decision.

FAQ

What evidence do you need to report a stolen product photo on Amazon?

The original image file, ASIN or full product URL, discovery date, side-by-side with a shared detail marked, and a full-page screenshot with URL and date. Know which detail-page images are stolen for Show all images. Optional: Upload Record verify URL for Link to copyrighted work; Order ID when packaging prints your image and Brand Registry asks. Fuller layout: sample evidence pack.

Brand Registry or the public infringement form — which one?

Brand Registry → brandservices.amazon.com → Report a Violation (Path A). Not enrolled → amazon.com/report/infringement with sign-in (Path B). Both need ASIN/URL, a clear image claim, and a place the original can be seen. Generic "contact us about another seller" is the wrong queue for copyright image claims.

Should I select every image under Show all images?

Select only the stolen frames. Checking the whole gallery when only the main or a secondary image is a copy slows review. Match ticks to your side-by-side.

Can I put many ASINs in one report?

Under one consistent concern, the public form often allows multiple ASINs (live form may show a limit around 50). Keep the issue type and story the same. Bundling unrelated shops or mixed claim types is a common bounce reason.

How do I show the photo is mine if I have no US copyright registration?

Many Amazon fields accept a public Link to copyrighted work, a verify page from an Upload Record (UTC and SHA-256 on the page), and a clear Description of copyrighted work. Registration helps when you have it. A dead or mismatched original link slows reviews.

Does ProvenPix file the Amazon report for me? Does a pack guarantee removal?

ProvenPix prepares Upload Records, helps you confirm lookalike hits, and can lay out an evidence pack — including which frames to tick under Show all images and Amazon URLs marked Add to complaint list for ASIN/URL paste. You read the pack, sign Amazon's declarations, and submit. A complete pack removes avoidable "no" reasons. Removal stays Amazon's decision.

How ProvenPix helps

  • Upload Record: After you protect a photo, paste the public verify page into Link to copyrighted work (UTC upload time and SHA-256 on the page).
  • Lookalike review: Monitoring surfaces visually similar hits. You open each Amazon URL, confirm copy vs your own listing, then use Add to complaint list on real copies. Hits mean needs your check, not automatic theft.
  • Evidence pack: Lays out original, comparison, and listing URLs against Amazon fields for Path A or Path B. Comparison marks which photo to tick under Show all images. Complaint-list Amazon URLs stay in one place for ASIN/URL paste. Pricing: /pricing .
